Small details can make a big difference when building an effective carp rig. One feature found across our terminal tackle range is our Cam-Spec finish - but what is it, and why do we use it?

What does Cam-Spec mean?

Cam-Spec is our camouflage-style finish, created using a mixture of natural green, brown and dark flecks.

Instead of giving each component one solid colour, the varied pattern helps break up its outline underwater. This allows your terminal tackle to blend more naturally with changing lakebed conditions, including weed, silt, clay and gravel.

Because no two areas of a lakebed are exactly the same, a mixed camouflage finish can be more versatile than relying on one flat colour.

Why does terminal tackle need to blend in?

Carp can be cautious feeders, particularly on pressured waters where they regularly encounter rigs.

Although good rig mechanics remain essential, reducing the visibility of your end tackle can help create a more natural-looking presentation. Components with a Cam-Spec finish are designed to appear less obvious around your hookbait, lead system and leader.

The finish is particularly useful when fishing over mixed ground, where a rig may land across more than one type of lakebed.

Which products feature the Cam-Spec finish?

The Cam-Spec finish is used across a wide selection of Carper Tackle products, allowing you to create a consistent and discreet carp rig setup.

These include:

  • Lead clip kits
  • Rig tubing and tungsten rig tubing
  • Solid bag stems
  • Hook beads and micro swivels
  • D-rig kickers and standard kickers
  • Helicopter rig components
  • Leadcore leaders
  • Running rig components

Using matching terminal tackle helps avoid bright or contrasting components that could stand out underwater.

Cam-Spec rig tubing

Rig tubing helps protect the fish during the fight while also reducing the chance of tangles during the cast.

Our standard and tungsten rig tubing both feature the Cam-Spec pattern. Tungsten tubing has additional weight to help it settle closely against the lakebed, making it a useful choice when you want to keep the area around your rig pinned down.

Cam-Spec lead clip systems

Lead clip systems provide a simple and reliable way to attach a lead while allowing the setup to release it when required.

The Cam-Spec finish helps the lead clip, tail rubber and surrounding components blend into the lakebed. Quick-change and ringed options are available, making it easier to select a system that suits your preferred rig arrangement.

Cam-Spec kickers and hook components

Kickers help position the hook and encourage it to turn effectively when a carp takes the bait.

A camouflage finish makes the kicker less prominent beside the hookbait. Hook bead, swivel and bait screw kits can also be used to create rigs such as German rigs, Ronnie rigs and other modern hookbait presentations.

Does Cam-Spec replace good rig presentation?

No. Cam-Spec is designed to improve concealment, but it should be used alongside correct rig selection and careful presentation.

Before casting, consider:

  • The type of lakebed you are fishing over
  • Whether the rig can reset itself
  • How the hookbait will sit
  • Whether your tubing or leader is lying flat
  • Whether every component is securely connected

A well-constructed rig that suits the lakebed will always be more important than colour alone.

A discreet finish across your whole setup

The main advantage of Cam-Spec terminal tackle is consistency. From tubing and lead clips to kickers and solid bag stems, each component uses a natural, broken-up finish designed for a less obvious underwater presentation.

It provides a practical option for anglers who want reliable terminal tackle that can be used across a wide range of UK carp fishing conditions.
